Easy Non-Toxic Playdough

I decided to make non-toxic homemade playdough for my ASD son. He is very picky about textures and smells. The texture of this play dough is very soft and pliable. It’s not gritty like some DIY recipes. It was a great sensory tool for him.

2 1/2 cups water

2 1/2 cups flour

3 tbsp cream of tartar

1/2 cup of salt

3 tbs coconut oil

a few drops of food coloring of your choice. I also added 1 Tsp of lemon extract.

You will add all ingredients to a saucepan. Mix together and then turn on to medium-high heat.

This is all the ingredients mixed together in the pot before cooking.

You will stir continuously until it becomes a big, clumpy, stuck together blob.

 It will look like this!

You will then remove from heat and let it cool. I’ve tried making this a few different ways. I first made it and then added food coloring and kneaded it in once it cooled, this didn’t turn out so well. I am using vegetable coloring so it was really spotty with the coloring. The second time I added the food coloring at the beginning with all the other ingredients and it turned out quite nicely.

With the food coloring being added at the beginning with all ingredients.
